New Voices was a series of radio visits with young writers in North Carolina funded through the Literature Program of the National Endowment for the Arts. It premiered on 5 April 1978 and was aired weekly on Wednesday nights through 17 May 1978 on public radio station WUNC-FM (91.5). Programs featured young creative artists reading from their recent works and reflecting on matters of basic human concern.
New Voices was the product of the collaborative efforts of Judy Hogan, a publisher of Carrboro, N.C., and Louise Cleveland, a radio producer of Durham, N.C. Hogan and Cleveland visited the writers in their homes, and recorded hours of tape to be edited and distilled to fit time constraints.
