Abstract | Kenneth Rayner Jones was born in Jones County, N.C., in February 1842. He attended the University of North Carolina from 1859 to 1861, and joined the Confederate Army while a student. Jones was a captain of the 27th North Carolina Regiment, Cooke's Brigade. The collection contains a diary kept by Jones, recording the frequent movements of his company; the weather; camp revivals; a snow fight fought by Cooke's and Kirkland's brigades, March 1864; and the Battle of the Wilderness, May 1864. |
