Abstract | Wife of William Francis Strudwick (d. 1851) of Demopolis, Ala.; born Elizabeth Webb, Hillsborough, N.C., daughter of James and Anne Alves Huske Webb. Letters, chiefly 1840-1865, to and from members of the Strudwick family of Demopolis, Ala., and the Webb family of Hillsborough, N.C.; and financial records. Many of the letters were written or received by Elizabeth Webb Strudwick. Letters concern affairs on the Strudwick farm near Demopolis, activities of family members in Hillsborough, health problems, and schooling of the Strudwick children. Correspondence from the Civil War year consists mostly of courting letters written to Elizabeth Strudwick's daughter Annie by two suitors. Troop movements and destruction at home also are occasionally noted. Two financial items record the sale of cotton by Elizabeth Strudwick in 1857. |
