The Chapel Hill Country Club apparently was founded in 1907. The club was first located on land rented from R. L. Strowd, and later on land apparently given by W. C. Coker. An early clubhouse, owned by Joseph H. Pratt, was also rented. The Country Club continued to rent the clubhouse from various members of the Pratt family until at least 1919.
