Borden family of North Carolina and Lacy family of North Carolina, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Prominent family members include Edwin B. Borden (1867?-1934) and his brother Frank Kornegay Borden (1857- 1941), businessmen of Goldsboro, N.C., and sons of E. B. and Georgia Whitfield Borden. Edwin, husband of Ella Kirby Borden, was vice-president of the Southern Cotton Oil Co. Frank, husband of Sallie Smith Jones Borden (1864-1934), started Borden Manufacturing Co. in 1899. He served as its president until his death and also served on the boards of many companies, including the Wayne County National Bank and the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. Lacy family members include Sallie McGavock Lacy, Presbyterian missionary and great-granddaughter of Drury Lacy (1802- 1884), founder and president of Hampton-Sydney College, and granddaughter of prominent Presbyterian minister, Graham Lacy of Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Correspondence, scrapbooks, pictures, and other items of the Borden and Lacy families. Included is correspondence, chiefly 1880s-1940s, relating to family and Presbyterian Church matters. Also included are letters and other materials relating to Sallie McGavock Lacy's work, 1910- 1923, with the Southern Presbyterian Mission in China. There are also scrapbooks of newspaper clippings about world and family affairs, books of postcards from around the world, and genealogical materials about the Borden and Lacy families and also the Smith, Wissler, and Jones families to which they were related.

The Addition of September 2018 consists of the Nick Palmer Materials, which include 9 letters from Captain William L. "Nick" Palmer, a UNC-Chapel Hill alum, to the family of Dana Lacy, written while serving in the Vietnam War during 1969-1970; 2 issues of The Green Beret magazine, 1970; and a 1979 funeral program for Dr. Yates Shuford Palmer, the father of Nick Palmer.
