Abstract | William Davis Jones III worked for The News and Observer of Raleigh, N.C., from 1949 to 1991, first as an advertising salesman and later as retail advertising manager, general manager, and associate publisher. Materials concerning the newspaper industry, including files on the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association and the Newspapers in Education program, and materials relating to the operation of The News and Observer, including files on personnel, applications and resumes, subscriptions, production, deadlines, budgets, circulation, complaints, and advertising. Also included are materials pertaining to Jones's personal life and interests, including a few letters from his children and other relatives, and files on the Journalism Foundation of North Carolina, the North Carolina Center for Literacy Development, the Raleigh Little Theater, the Rex Hospital Foundation, and the Wake County United Way. |
