Abstract | Beginning around 1900, the Lowe's Grove School, Durham County, N.C., served the small Lowe's Grove farming community as a one-room schoolhouse, a high school, a farm-life school, and an elementary school. The school was closed in 1989 because the land on which it stood had become valuable commercial property. Clippings, parent-teacher association scrapbooks, school publications, pictures, and other items relating to Lowe's Grove School. PTA scrapbooks contain clippings and other materials relating to the organization's activities, 1933-1949. Publications include course catalogs, school histories, and commencement programs that document the evolution of the school from one-room schoolhouse to high school to farm- school in the 1910s and 1920s to elementary in the 1970s and 1980s. Pictures are formal photographs of the boys' 1928 basketball and wrestling teams and of a 1971-1972 elementary school class. |
