Abstract | A. Glenn Holt, a native of Alamance County, N.C., and son of Kirk Holt and Maud G. Holt, inherited control of the Kirk Holt Hardware company and partnership in Burlington Mills from his father, Kirk Holt. Correspondence and financial records of Glenn Holt regarding his affiliation with Burlington Mills and with Kirk Holt Hardware in Alamance County, N.C., in the 1920s. Correspondence, 1927-1928, between Holt and his partner, Spencer Love, discusses the organizational system within Burlington Mills and Love's desire to buy out Holt and end the partnership. The majority of these letters are concerned with the conditions of the buyout. There are also two letters expressing condolences at the death of Holt's father in July 1928. Also included in the collection are financial statements, receipts, deeds and mortgages, and agreements and certificates of incorporation. The financial statements are those of Kirk Holt Hardware listing assets and liabilities in six-month intervals between 1923 and 1929. The receipts are for Holt's life insurance, taxes, charitable donations, investments, and bank payments. |
