Abstract | Neal Gregory Hutcheson, a North Carolina State University graduate, is a filmmaker in Durham, N.C. He has worked with the North Carolina State University Humanities Extension/Publications Program, the outreach section of the NCSU College of Humanities and Social Science. One of the Program's publications is the Talk About Writing: Portraits of North Carolina Writers series of educational videos about the lives and work of prominent writers. Poet Jonathan Williams was born on 8 March 1929 in Asheville, N.C. In 1951, he founded the non-profit Jargon Society, which publishes poetry of lesser-known or forgotten artists. The collection includes videotapes and other materials from Neal Hutcheson's Talk About Writing: Jonathan Williams and Jonathan Williams Selected Readings, funded by Jim Clark and the North Carolina State University Humanities Extension/Publications Program. The recordings feature Williams reading his poems, but there is also a conversation about H. B. Kitty, the Jargon Society mascot and footage and a script from the NCSU Humanities Extension/Publications Program series, Talk About Writing: Portraits of North Carolina Writers in which Williams discusses writing, poetry, and his work. |

The North Carolina State University Humanities Extension/Publications Program is the outreach section of the College of Humanities and Social Science, North Carolina State University. The program seeks an educational partnership with the people of North Carolina and is involved in numerous projects, lectures, and service activities. One of the Program's publications is Talk About Writing: Portraits of North Carolina writers, a series of educational videos about the lives and work of prominent writers.
Jonathan Williams was born on 8 March 1929 in Asheville, N.C., the son of Georgia Chamberlain and Ben Williams. After his graduation from St. Albans, Williams studied the visual arts at Princeton, Atelier 17, the Phillips Memorial Gallery, and the Institute of Design (Chicago). While studying photography at Black Mountain College, Williams embarked on a career as a poet. He has written more than 50 books and his poems are often accompanied by illustrations. Williams has received several awards for his poetry, including honorary degrees, a Guggenheim Fellowship for Poetry, and the North Carolina Award in Fine Arts. In 1951, Williams founded the non-profit Jargon Society, which publishes poetry of lesser-known or forgotten artists.
