Abstract | Samuel Alfred Alexander was a schoolmaster and farmer in Alamance County, N.C. The collection consists of one small memorandum book containing handwritten notes made by Samuel Alfred Alexander from 1916 to 1922, when he was schoolmaster at Mount Pleasant, N.C. Most of the notes are directly related to his duties at the school. They include class rosters, texts for quizzes given on various subjects, and charts of student quiz scores. Other notes include donation and expense ledgers for a well and a painting to be given to the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Inserted in the book were two letters. One was written by Alexander's acquaintance Mrs. Jno. M. Kime to Guilford County land appraisers in 1921, requesting that the appraisal of her land be reduced. The other is an undated note from a parent of one of Alexander's students explaining the student's absence from class. Also inserted into the book were two receipts, 1920 and undated. |

Samuel Alfred Alexander was born in southern Alamance County, N.C., on 4 October 1860. He married Mary Louola Barnhardt on 27 December 1887 and lived most his life on the Alexander family homestead in Alamance County Alexander made a living as a schoolmaster at various schools in Alamance County and Guilford County, N.C. After retiring, he worked on his farm until his death on 29 December 1945.
