Abstract | Thomas Vickery was a Georgia plantation owner. The collection includes one manuscript account book, approximately 35 pages, with entries 30 July 1834-15 January 1871, documenting payments received and given by Thomas Vickery, owner of a plantation in Charlton County, Ga. Generally, the purposes of the recorded transactions are not given, but some are related to the purchase of slaves, the collection of rent on houses, repayment of loans, and the building of a barn. The last few pages contain a list of indentured servants, along with their dates of birth; dates of manumission; and costs of "freedom suits," suits of clothes provided upon the completion of servitude. |
