Abstract | Charles Jones Jenkins was the governor of Reconstruction-era Georgia, 1865-1868. D. McRae was a resident of Telfair County, Ga., in 1865. The collection consists of one letter (with transcript), dated 30 December 1865, from D. McRae to Charles Jones Jenkins (C. J. Jenkins). The letter discusses the state of affairs in Telfair County, Ga., at the close of the Civil War, specifically contracts for work with newly freed African Americans, and includes a request for permission to form a volunteer militia. |
