Abstract | Henry Buinicky was born in 1918 in Charleston, N.H. He enlisted in the United States Army on 3 September 1943 and was soon after stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., for artillery training. Following World War II, he married Priscilla Langdon in 1947. He died in 2002. The collection consists chiefly of love letters written by Henry Buinicky to Priscilla Langdon while he was stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., between October 1943 and March 1944. Buinicky often expressed his opinions on subjects such as Catholicism, premarital sex, homosexuality, family values, and his parents' disapproval of his relationship with Langdon. He inquired after Langdon's health, academic studies, and social interactions. Buinicky also discussed his daily activities at Fort Bragg, including physical and artillery training, guard and K.P. (kitchen police) duty, and field tests. He often commented on the morals of his fellow soldiers and related stories about how he was often teased for his abstemious behavior. Other materials include letters written to Buinicky by his mother and friends; Buinicky enclosed these letters in his letters to Langdon. |
