Henry Buinicky was born 25 April 1918 in Charleston, N.H. He attended Saint Mary's Seminary, receiving degrees in philosophy in 1941 and theology in 1943. He enlisted in the United States Army on 3 September 1943 and was soon after stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., for artillery training. He also served in France and Germany.

Following the war, he married Priscilla Langdon on 17 August 1947 and began teaching in Newport, N.H. In 1952, he became the track coach for Towle High School. He received his masters of education from Keene State College in 1960. Buinicky died on 29 March 2002.

TThe collection consists chiefly of World War II-era love letters written by Henry Buinicky to Priscilla Langdon while he was stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., between October 1943 and March 1944. Buinicky often expressed his opinions on subjects such as Catholicism, premarital sex, homosexuality, family values, and his parents' disapproval of his relationship with Langdon. He inquired after Langdon's health, academic studies, and social interactions. Buinicky also discussed his daily activities at Fort Bragg, including physical and artillery training, guard and K.P. (kitchen police) duty, and field tests. He often commented on the morals of his fellow soldiers and related stories about how he was often teased for his abstemious behavior. Other materials include letters written to Buinicky by his mother and friends; Buinicky enclosed these letters in his letters to Langdon.
