Abstract Sugar Dulin was born in Onslow County, N.C. He moved to Mecklenburg County, N.C., in 1791, where he bought a large tract of land east of Charlotte and lived until his death in 1845. Dulin fought as a soldier in the Revolutionary War. The collection consists of an autobiographical sketch, written by Dulin circa 1833. Most of the information relates to his time as a soldier during the Revolutionary War. Dulin detailed troop movements, locations, and orders. He described his surroundings and mentioned the names of fellow soldiers and officers. At one point, Dulin repeated a friend's story of being shot by the Whigs while at home. Also included is a short overview of his life, giving his place and date of birth and describing his joining the army and later moving to Mecklenberg County. The only date mentioned in the sketches is 1781.
