Abstract | American author Thomas Wolfe was born in Asheville, N.C., and attended the University of North Carolina, 1916-1920. Mildred Hartshorn and her husband Matthew Hartshorn were childhood friends of Wolfe's in Asheville. The collection consists of a letter, 29 August 1933, from Thomas Wolfe to Mildred Hartshorn discussing her husband's death and the death of another mutual friend, a photograph of Thomas Wolfe stepping off of a train with the label on the verso "Thomas Wolfe in Berlin," undated postcards depicting Wolfe, clippings and other materials relating to Wolfe's death and funeral, and other items. |
