Abstract | Pauline Staley Loy (1918-2009) was born in Alamance County, N.C., to John Wade and Maude Councilman Staley, and was married to David Loy. The collection contains letters to Pauline Staley Loy of Burlington, N.C., and to Staley family members written by friends and family serving in World War II. Letters from David Loy, Pauline Staley Loy's future husband, document the development of their relationship as well as life on base at Fort Eustis, Va., at Camp Stoneman in California, and on a base in the Hawaiian Islands. Letters from Edison Moody, another suitor of Pauline Staley Loy, discuss life at Camp Bradford in Norfolk, Va. There are also letters from Pauline Staley Loy's brother Clyde Staley to family members describing life at the Atlanta Ordinance Motor Base in Atlanta, Ga., and at Camp McCain, Miss., as well as letters from her brother Lynn Staley describing life on base in San Francisco, Calif. Also included is a postcard book, 1941, of Fort Bragg, N.C.; a postcard of the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Ill.; and Lynn Staley's certificate of honorable discharge. |
