Abstract Henry Quincy Alexander (1863-1929) was a physician working in the rural areas of Providence, N.C., and Matthews, N.C., in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Alexander was a member of the North Carolina state legislature for several terms, and one of the founders of the Mecklenburg Medical Society, where he served as the society's first president. This collection consists of Henry Quincy Alexander's medical ledgers, containing the names of patients treated, the remedy prescribed, payments received or not received, and other information. The ledgers include both African American and white patients and a broad spectrum of diseases. The ledger covering the years 1893-1895 also includes remedies and recipes for medicines.

Henry Quincy Alexander (1863-1929) was a physician working in the rural areas of Providence, N.C., and Matthews, N.C., in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Alexander was a member of the North Carolina state legislature for several terms, and one of the founders of the Mecklenburg Medical Society, and one of the founders of the Mecklenburg Medical Society, where he served as the society's first president. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland Medical College and an active elder of Providence Presbyterian Church in Providence, N.C., for many years.

Includes patient debts and accounts, and remedies and recipes for medical ailments. Also included are two loose items inside the cover: a "A Final Warning!" notice signed by Henry Quincy Alexander and other area physicians warning patients that they must pay their medical bills on time; and a partial ballot from Mecklenburg County, N.C., 5 July 1902, where S.B. Alexander appears on the ballot as a candidate.
