Abstract | R.C. Nockold was a jeweller of Frith Street, London. The collection includes ten letters, 1885-1886 and undated, to R.C. Nockold, from John Ruskin (1819-1900), Brantwood, Coniston, Lancashire, England, about the purchase of precious stones, including the Colenso diamond, which Ruskin bought and later gave to the Natural History Museum; and two letters to Nockold from Ruskin's secretary on the same subject. Also included are an article, April 1896, from "The Strand Magazine" about the Colenso diamond which includes the text of two additional letters from Ruskin to Nockold and a newspaper clipping, 1965, about the theft of the Colenso diamond from the Natural History Museum. |
