Abstract |
The 1951 recording on open-reel audiotape was made by Ben Lumpkin Gray (1901-1982),
an English professor at the University of Colorado and a collector of folk songs.
The recording contains two ballads, "Mary Hebrew" ("The Wife of Usher's Well") and
"Sonny Hugh" ("Sir Hugh or the Jew's Daughter"), sung by Mrs. Pearl Hartzell. Acquired
as part of the Southern Folklife Collection.
