Abstract | Martha J. Nelson is a former graduate student in the Curriculum in Folklore at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. From 1994 to 1995 she was staff folklorist at the Hiddenite Arts and Heritage Center in Hiddenite, N.C. The collection contains fieldwork and interviews conducted by Martha Nelson in Alexander, Caldwell, Iredell, Lenoir, Watauga, Surry and Wilkes counties in western North Carolina from 1994 to 1995. Materials consist of 31 audiocassettes, 1994-1995, covering several subjects, including musical performance, local history, and life narrative. The collection also includes 35 born-digital tape log documents that correspond with the audio recordings found in the collection. Created by Nelson in 2015, the tape logs primarily consist of technical notes and overviews and were originally housed on a DVD-R. |
