Abstract The collection contains dubs on open-reel audiotape of country, old time, and gospel music from the 78 rpm record collection of Frank B. Sloop, Jr., a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the early 1970s. Sloop inherited the record collection from his uncle, Jasper A. Sloop of Landis, N.C. Recording artists represented on the dubs include the Carter Family, John Lee Williamson, Sonny Boy Williamson, Lester McFarland, Robert A. Gardner, the Johnson Brothers, Rev. A.W. Nix, and Rev. S.J. Worell. Field notes accompanying the recordings list the artists and songs. Acquired as part of the Southern Folklife Collection.

Frank B. Sloop, Jr., ( -1989) of Asheville, N.C., was a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the early 1970s. In 1979, Dr. Sloop chartered a pathology practice in Charlottesville, Va. He died in 1989.
