Donald T. Hughston is a shape-note singing researcher and possible author of "The Incubation of an American Humorist: The West and the Development of Mark Twain," a 1975 honors essay for the Curriculum in American Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Open reel audio recording of Mr. Goforth, song leader of the Baptist church in Harmony, N.C., shape-note singing. Recorded 30 May 1976 by Donald Hughston, a white graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The collection also contains supporting documentation consisting of a field collection cover sheet prepared by former library staff.
