Abstract | Dynamic Legacies: Charlie Poole and the Evolution and Transmission of the Southern String Band Tradition was a symposium held on 8 April 2005 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The collection consists of audiocassette recordings and other materials relating to Dynamic Legacies: Charlie Poole and the Evolution and Transmission of the Southern String Band Tradition, a symposium sponsored by the student group Music in Context and the Southern Folklife Collection and held at the University of North Carolina at Chapel on 8 April 2005. The 13 audiocassettes contain student papers on the string band tradition; comments from Alan Jabbour, former director of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, and Phil Vandermeer, Music Librarian at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; a panel discussion on Charlie Poole and the North Carolina Ramblers with Hank Sapoznik and Kinney Rorrer; and concerts, including one by the New North Carolina Ramblers. Also included are the symposium program, publicity materials, and other items. |
