Abstract | Casey Burns was born in 1975 in Hendersonville, N.C. He studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1993 to 1998, receiving a degree in journalism. During these years, he began to be involved in the independent rock music scene in Chapel Hill as a poster artist and musician. In 2006, Burns relocated to Portland, Ore., where he continued to create poster art. The collection contains posters designed and printed by poster artist and illustrator Casey Burns. The posters are primarily announcements for rock concerts in the Chapel Hill, N.C., area at venues such as Cat's Cradle, Local 506, and Go! Some of the musical acts featured on the posters are Tift Merritt, Bettie Serveert, Richard Buckner, Southern Culture on the Skids, Mogwai, Gang of Four, Joan Baez, Super Furry Animals, Crooked Fingers, Breeders, Lucinda Williams, Built to Spill, and Dashboard Confessional. |

Casey Burns was born in 1975 in Hendersonville, N.C. He studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1993 to 1998, receiving a degree in journalism. During these years, he began to be involved in the independent rock music scene in Chapel Hill, desiging and printing posters for rock concerts at local music venues including Cat's Cradle, Local 506 and Go! In addition to posters, he created art for several books, comic books, and t-shirts for musicians such as Led Zeppelin, Tift Merritt, and the Sex Pistols. From 2002 to 2006, Burns played bass guitar and toured extensively with local rock band the Nein. In 2006, Burns relocated to Portland, Ore., where he continued to create poster art for music venues as well as illustrations for commercial enterprises such as Dr. Martens and Toyota.
