Jim McGee is a traditional musician, folklorist, and therapist based in Louisville, Ky. Growing up in the Piedmont of North Carolina, he learned guitar, banjo and fiddle from traditional musicians, including Kirk Sutphin, Riley Baugus, Dix Freeman, and Rick Hubbard. He holds a Master Degree in Folklore from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Masters in Social Work from West Virginia University, and Masters in Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary. Since 2000, he has worked to integrate music into mental health care for children, adolescents and adults. Jim has conducted artist residencies in the Public Schools of Kentucky, West Virginia, and North Carolina, and has performed at the Heartland Dulcimer Festival, the Hindman Settlement School, Mountain Stage, West Virginia Public television, and UNC-TV.

Artists featured on the recordings include Carl Rutherford, Bishop Dready "D. L." Manning, Art Stamper, Lee Sexton, Melvin Wine, Elaine Purkey, and Jim McGee, among others.
The collection also contains photographs of Carl Rutherford and other folk, R&B, and blues musicians, as well as scattered printed materials on Carl Rutherford and Jim McGee.
