During the 1969-1970 academic year, the University Property Division (later Property Office) was established to oversee the increasing legal work of the Chapel Hill campus. Mainly concerned with the acquisition, sale, and rental/lease of real property by and from the university, this office also approved service contracts and agreements; requests for extended or all risk insurance; and automobile liability and workman's compensation coverage. In liaison with officials of state government, it also processed claims (tort, bad check and insurance) against and in behalf of the university.
