Abstract | The Library's SPA Forum was proposed and planned in the summer and fall of 1993 before being formally established in the spring of 1994. Its purpose was to raise the profile of SPA staff members in the day-to-day operations of the library and to serve as a forum for the concerns, knowledge, and experience of those staff members. Forum members were elected from divisions composed of the various library departments. Beginning in May 1994, the forum held monthly meetings to discuss topics such as employee appreciation, health and safety, employment resources, position review, and others that related to SPA employees. Records of the SPA Forum include files related to the forum's elections, meetings, and other activities. Included are reports, rosters, surveys, bylaws and policies; ballots and other materials related to elections; and correspondence and minutes relating to meetings of the forum. |

The Library's SPA Forum was proposed and planned by a committee of three SPA staff in the summer and fall of 1993. Its purpose was to raise the profile of SPA staff members in the day-to-day operations of the library and to serve as a forum for the concerns, knowledge and experience of those staff members. University Librarian Joe Hewitt formally established the forum in the spring of 1994. Forum members were elected from divisions composed of the various library departments, and the planning committee arranged the first election. Beginning in May 1994, the forum held monthly meetings to discuss topics such as employee appreciation, health and safety, employment resources, position review, and others that related to SPA employees.
