Abstract | The Program in the Humanities and Human Values was established in 1979 as the Program in the Humanities for the Study of Human Values. Its name changed in 1984 to Program in the Humanities and Human Values. Originally part of the Division of Extension and Continuing Education, it became part of the College of Arts and Sciences in 1988. Since its inception, the program has offered public lectures, seminars, and other programming drawn from the humanities and designed to promote a more humane understanding of the world. Records consist of files related to seminars, lectures, and other programming offered by the Program in the Humanities and Human Values, 1979-2010. Included are correspondence, publicity, program agendas, lists of participants, expense accounts, program evaluations, and course materials. Files are largely those of Warren A. Nord, who directed the program from 1979 to 2004, and Wayne J. Pond, who directed it from 2004 to 2008. |

The Program in the Humanities and Human Values was established in 1979 through the efforts of Professor of Philosophy E. Maynard Adams. Originally called the Program in the Humanities for the Study of Human Values, its name changed in 1984 to Program in the Humanities and Human Values. The program was part of the Division of Extension and Continuing Education until 1988, when it became part of the College of Arts and Sciences. Since its inception, the program has offered public lectures, seminars, and other programming drawn from the humanities and designed to promote a more humane understanding of the world.
