Abstract | The Asian American Students Association at the University of North Carolina at Chapel is a student organization that promotes awareness of the diversity of the Asian-American student community. The organization was founded as the Asian Students Association in 1989, but in 2018 voted to change its name to the Asian American Students Association to more accurately reflect its membership and focus on Asian American issues. From 1993 to 2006, the organization published East Wind, a magazine focusing on news and issues related to Asian and Asian-American life and culture. Each year, it hosts Journey into Asia, a cultural show featuring performers from a diverse range of Asian backgrounds, and Baby Blue, a basketball tournament. This collection contains design and promotional material for AASA events, programs from Journey Into Asia, a copy of the constitution-and-bylaws, member lists, materials related to the 2018 name change, cover photos for social media accounts, and profile pictures of AASA officers. It is accompanied by archived websites of email newsletters (2017-2018), selected Facebook events (2016-2017), and the organization’s website (2011). |
