Since August 2017, we have added ethnic and racial identities for individuals and families represented in collections. To determine identity, we rely on self-identification; other information supplied to the repository by collection creators or sources; public records, press accounts, and secondary sources; and contextual information in the collection materials. Omissions of ethnic and racial identities in finding aids created or updated after August 2017 are an indication of insufficient information to make an educated guess or an individual's preference for identity information to be excluded from description. When we have misidentified, please let us know at wilsonlibrary@unc.edu.
Archival processing of the audiovisual materials was made possible through a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Laurie Lewis, a white bluegrass singer, songwriter, fiddler, bandleader, producer and record label owner, has released records for Rounder Records, Flying Fish, and her own record label, Spruce and Maple. She is a pioneering woman in bluegrass music and a frequent collaborator with Kathy Kallick, Linda Ronstandt, and Alice Gerrard. She is a two-time championship fiddler, IBMA award winner for Song of the Year "Who Will Watch the Homeplace" (1994) and Female Vocalist of the Year (1992, 1994) and Grammy nominee with Tom Rozum for Best Traditional Folk Album (1996). Lewis was also the director of Bluegrass Week workshop at the Augusta Heritage Center in Elkins, W.Va., for ten years (1986-1996). Tom Rozum is a white multi-instrumentalist, who primarily plays the mandolin, but also plays the fiddle, mandola, and guitar. He joined Laurie Lewis as part of the original Grant Street Band in 1986. A long-time fixture of the Bay-area music scene, Rozum is known for The Oak and the Laurel (1995), his Grammy-nominated album of duets with Laurie Lewis and his solo album Jubilee (1998).
