Abstract The Department of Women's and Gender Studies was founded as the Curriculum in Women's Studies in 1976, taking its current name in July 2012. An academic unit in the College of Arts and Sciences, the department seeks to expand the process of knowledge production to include consideration of gender, race, class, and sexuality. Records in this collection include materials documenting the establishment of the program and department, annual reports, advisory board minutes, curriculum development, and the Duke-UNC Women's Studies Research Center.
