Abstract | Contains one undated notebook with handwritten notes taken during Dr. J. William White's surgical lectures at the University of Pennsylvania. Based on the description supplied by the bookseller, the notes were presumably taken by a medical student attending the lectures, circa 1900. Dr. J. William White (1850-1916) was a white surgeon and sexually transmitted disease specialist at the University of Pennsylvania from 1874 until his retirement in 1911. Born in Philadelphia in 1850, White received an M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1871. During his career, he co-authored medical textbooks on surgery, sexually transmitted diseases, and anatomy. |

Dr. J. William White (1850-1916) was a white surgeon and sexually transmitted disease specialist at the University of Pennsylvania from 1874 until his retirement in 1911. Born in Philadelphia in 1850, White received an M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1871. During his career, he co-authored medical textbooks on surgery, sexually transmitted diseases, and anatomy. White's father, Dr. James W. White, was the longtime president of the S. S. White Dental Company.
