These photographs made at the same location represent, in Frank Clodfelter's opinion,
the most spectacular view of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Old Fort to Ridgecrest
line of the Southern Railway System. The photograph shows the range of the Pisgah
National Forest in the background. This photograph was made on the vast horseshoe
curve around Andrews Geyser between mileposts 116 and 117 on the Salisbury to Asheville
line. One photograph shows a Spencer to Asheville freight train climbing the Blue
Ridge Mountains. Another phototograph shows the caboose of an Asheville to Spencer
freight train. These photographs were made 14 October 1981.
