The North Carolina Department of Community Colleges was established in 1963 by order of the North Carolina General Assembly. The creation of the North Carolina Department of Community Colleges established a unified administrative body for the state's community colleges and technical institutes.

The collection consists of a report created by the North Carolina Department of Community Colleges for North Carolina Governor Dan K. Moore in 1966. The report includes photographs related to vocational training programs at North Carolina community colleges and technical institutes. Also included is correspondence from industry leaders to the heads of North Carolina community colleges and technical institutes regarding the quality of training received by alumni employed in a variety of industries.
