Civil War letters from John Bratton with the 6th South Carolina Regiment to his wife, Betty (DuBose) Bratton in and near Winnsboro, S.C. The letters describe army life at different camps in South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia; battles in which Bratton took part; and the behavior of slaves, both those who remained at home and those who accompanied their masters into the army. Letters of January and February 1865 advise Mrs. Bratton as to what she should do in the event the Yankees approach her home.
