Charles Henning Hendricks (1917-2010) was a practioner and professor of obstetrics and gynecology. Hendricks practiced and taught at Western Reserve University (now Case Western Reserve University) beginning in 1957, served as a Macy Fellow in the Seccion Fisiologica Obstetrica at the University of Uruguay in Montevideo, and came to University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1968. During his time at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Hendricks served as a professor and chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Hendricks retired as a Robert A. Ross Distinguished Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology emeritus in December 1988.
The collection consists of correspondence, research materials, photographs, and societal information that document Hendricks' personal and professional involvement in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Included are letters and research materials written by or compiled by Charles H. Hendricks and colleagues during Hendricks' time at Western Reserve University (now Case Western University), the University of Uruguay in Montevideo, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Charles Henning Hendricks (1917-2010) was born in Traverse City, Michigan. He received A.B. and M.D. degrees at the University of Michigan and trained in obstetrics and gynecology at both University of Michigan and The Ohio State University.
Hendricks practiced and taught at Western Reserve University (now Case Western Reserve University) beginning in 1957, served as a Macy Fellow in the Seccion Fisiologica Obstetrica at the University of Uruguay in Montevideo, and came to University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1968. During his time at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Hendricks served as a professor and chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Hendricks retired as a Robert A. Ross Distinguished Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology emeritus in December 1988.
Hendricks was a member of several professional organizations including The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, The American Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society, The Association of Professors of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Cleveland Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Society for Gynecological Investigation. He was awarded honorary membership in the following organizations: Paraguaya de Ginecologia y Obstetricia, Sociedad de Ginecotocologia del Uruguay, Biological Society of Montevideo, and Fellowship ad eundum of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
Hendricks was married to Geraldine Ruth Chisholm and had six children: William Allen, Charles H., Jr., Paul David, Marybeth, Judith Ann, and Cynthia Ruth.

Charles Henning Hendricks was a professor and practitioner of obstetrics and gynecology. This collection consists of correspondence, research materials, photographs, and societal information that document Hendricks' personal and professional involvement in the field of obstetrics and gynecology.
Correspondence consists of personal and professional letters between Hendricks and colleagues that include discussions on research, papers and presentations, travel plans, and participation in societies. Society materials consist of information regarding Hendricks' involvement in several professional societies in which he was a member, a founder, or both. Research materials consist of slides, notebooks, and documents (such as charts, papers) related to Hendricks' research in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. Photographs consist of personal and professional events, work environments, and various persons and subject materials.
