Abstract The School of Dentistry of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was established by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1949, and the first classes were admitted in the fall of 1950. As of 2012, the school offered a full array of degree programs in the fields of dentistry and oral medicine, including nine master of science degree programs, two Ph.D. programs, several certificate programs, and the Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree. The school's Office of Academic Affairs, which reported to the Office of the Dean, was the unit responsible for administering academic programs. Records include self-studies and other data compiled by the School of Dentistry's academic units for accreditations conducted by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association in 2003, 2010, 2015, and 2017, as well as a report and a bound series of memos from 1953. Materials pertain to the various degree and certificate programs offered by the school, including Advanced Education in General Dentistry, Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, General Practice Residency, Endodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontics, and Prosthodontics.
