Blewett Falls Dam was created for hydroelectric power at Blewett Falls on the Pee Dee River by the Rockingham Power Company in Anson County, N.C. The construction of the dam began in 1905 and was completed in 1912. The 1500 foot dam created by Blewett Falls Lake, almost 10 miles long and covering 2500 acres; the falls, 8 or 9 in number, cover a distance of about 1000 feet, are now under water. The falls and lake were named for William Blewett who owned the land in the mid-18th century.
